Recommendations from VNIS agronomists
To achieve high yields of sunflower, minimize losses from weeds and ensure the efficiency of cultivation, it is important to choose the right plant protection products and follow cultivation technologies. The use of imidazolinone herbicides, such as Euro-Lightning, allows you to control the most problematic weeds even at the stage of post-emergence treatment of sunflower seed. Our portfolio includes hybrids that meet the requirements of this technology: Carlos 105, Carlos 115 and Armageddon.
Imidazolinone herbicides: effectiveness and principle of action
Herbicides of this group have a systemic effect, ensuring the destruction of weeds through the aerial part and root system due to the soil activity of the drug. The first signs of action are noticeable 5-8 days after application, and complete weed control occurs within 2-8 weeks.
Benefits of using herbicides:
Effective destruction of annual dicotyledonous and cereal weeds.
Control of the most problematic species, such as ragweed, crabgrass, broomrape, and cycloheline.
Long-term impact on new weed seedlings in sunflower crops.
Technological features of herbicide application
Herbicides in this group require the cultivation of specialized sunflower hybrids that are genetically resistant to the drugs. Among them, there are hybrids of Ukrainian breeding, such as Carlos 105, Carlos 115 and Armagedon.
Recommendations for use:
The development stage of cultivated plants:
The optimal period of herbicide application is the stage of 2-4 pairs of true sunflower leaves.
Weed growth stage:
The best effectiveness of the product is achieved in the phase of active weed growth:
Dicotyledons - up to 4 true leaves.
Cereals - 2-3 true leaves.
Important points:
Do not use the product in tank mixtures with organophosphate insecticides or fertilizers.
Avoid application on one field more than once every three years.
Observe crop rotation to prevent toxicity of subsequent crops.
Crop rotation after herbicide application
Residual amounts of imidazolinone herbicides in the soil may affect subsequent crops. Therefore, after harvesting sunflower, it is recommended:
Sow winter wheat in 4 months.
After 11 months - soybeans, barley, corn, oats.
After 18 months - sunflower (not resistant to imidazolinones), sorghum, millet.
After 26 months - beets, rapeseed, and vegetable crops.
Hybrids in our portfolio
To ensure successful cultivation using Clearfield technology, we offer Ukrainian-bred sunflower hybrids with genetic resistance to imidazolinone herbicides:
Carlos 105 is an early maturing variety with high resistance to disease and drought.
Carlos 115 is a mid-season hybrid with excellent yields and excellent adaptation to different climatic conditions.
Armageddon is a universal hybrid with high resistance to stress factors.
