VNIS is expanding its activities to include vegetable crop breeding. In addition to other field crops, the organization is focused on breeding vegetable corn, particularly with a strong program for sugar corn.

The modern sh-2 sugar corn hybrids developed by VNIS are recognized for their excellent yield potential, high disease resistance, and sustained high levels of mono- and disaccharides over extended periods.

These sh-2-type sugar corn hybrids are suitable for both the fresh market and various processing methods, including freezing and canning.
